Actual industrial control systems result costprohibitive to install and maintain in small or medium size industrial plants. However, maintenance of industrial equipment is a critical activity. Main objective of the work described in this paper is to develop hardware and software technology for remote monitoring and control, in order to support predictive maintenance activities on industrial equipment. In this paper we present an under development prototype of a flexible and low cost infrastructure with very innovative contributions based in wireless sensor networks.
